From the Barracks to the Nation – My Story: A Message from The Liberator

"Pastor Mohamed Samuel Kamara reflects on his humble beginnings in the police barracks and how the values of discipline and hard work led him to success, promising to create a Sierra Leone where every child, no matter their background, has the opportunity to reach their dreams."

The Liberator: Pastor Mohamed Samuel Kamara
I was born in a place where dreams often struggled to survive—inside the police barracks. The sound of sirens was our alarm clock. The sight of uniforms was our everyday view.
We were the children of men and women who wore those uniforms with pride… but lived with daily struggles the world never saw. Some of us slept in cramped rooms with leaky roofs. We studied under dim lights because the electricity was never steady. We shared everything—food, clothes, even hope.
Many of the children I grew up with in those barracks never had the chance to go far. Some got lost along the way. Some gave up on their dreams. Some never got the opportunity to even start.
But by the grace of God, I made it. And I am not the only one—many others from the barracks have made it too. We carried the lessons of discipline, respect, and hard work that our parents—our police fathers and mothers—instilled in us.
I remember my father leaving for work before sunrise, sometimes coming home long after midnight. His boots were worn out, but his pride was never broken. He taught me that no matter where you start in life, it is where you finish—and who you lift along the way—that matters most.
That is why I am standing before you today—not just as an individual, but as a representative of every child who grew up in places where the world expected little from them. I am proof that your beginnings do not define your end.
And my dream for Sierra Leone is simple: to create a country where no child—whether from the barracks, the village, or the city—ever feels that their future is already decided for them. Where opportunities are open to all, not just a few. Where hard work is rewarded, and dreams are protected.
I made it. Others have made it. And together—we can make sure that every child in Sierra Leone has the chance to make it too.
